Biomethane demand soars by 800% thanks to UK companies

Demand for renewable biomethane compressed natural gas (Bio-CNG) in the UK has increased by 800% since 2017, thanks to companies switching to cut carbon emissions, pollution and fuel costs.

That's according to CNG Fuels, which has announced the addition of two refuelling stations to its network - 'Europe's largest refuelling station' in Warrington and one in Northampton.

It notes both stations are capable of refuelling more than 1,000 HGVs a day, more than doubling the 600-a-day capacity of its existing stations at Leyland, Lancashire and Crewe, Cheshire.

The company also plans to open an additional six to eight stations in the next 12 months as it expands its network of HGV refuelling stations to meet growing demand.

It says the energy company has helped companies save 55,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide since it began supplying renewable and sustainable Bio-CNG in 2017.

That’s expected to rise to 90,000 tonnes by the end of 2020 as demand increases by an additional 200%, thanks to major brands such as John Lewis Partnership, Hermes and Home Bargains committing to switching from diesel.
