Coronavirus puts the brakes on Nissan’s EV and car production at Sunderland factory

Nissan has suspended the production of electric vehicles (EV) and traditional cars at its flagship UK factory at Sunderland 'until the end of this week'.

The pause in the firm's manufacturing operations comes in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, which has caused a signficant slowdown in business all around the world.

The car manufacturer said in a statement: "The company is following all advice from national governments and has implemented a range of measures to ensure the welfare of employees and communities.

"Additionally, Nissan is ready to support any initiatives where its manufacturing and engineering expertise can be useful. In Nissan's Sunderland Plant, vehicle production stopped March 17th and has now been suspended until the end of this week. We will continue to monitor the situation."
