Logistics firm installs largest rooftop solar array in Nordics

Logistics firm installs largest rooftop solar array in Nordics

A new solar energy array said to be the largest facility of its kind in the Nordic region is to be built on the roof of a logistics building in Sweden.

The record-breaking 60.000 square metre array six kilometres outside Gothenburg will have a capacity of 5MW and is expected to save a volume of carbon dioxide each year equivalent to the consumption of 800 homes.

The renewable energy infrastructure will provide green electricity for the building, which is managed by Logicenters, the logistics arm of real estate investor NREP, as well as the grid.

The firm claims to be the first Nordic real estate company to commit to 100% renewable power and expects the facility will cost approximately €3 million (£2.6m).

CEO at NREP, Claus Mathisen, said: "The use of electricity in buildings is increasing and it is obviously all-important for the green transition in society to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from real estate.

"We want to pioneer a sustainable development in our industry and have set a clear ambition to run all our buildings on 100% renewable electricity. This project delivers real impact, and important hope, for the future."
