Mattel shifts towards creating toys from bio-plastics

Toy giant Mattel has announced its popular construction brand Mega Bloks will now feature three preschool building sets made from bio-based 'plastic' resins.

The 'Polar Friends', 'Safari Friends' and 'Woodland Friends' toys will also be packaged in sustainably-sourced, fully-recyclable packaging.

The firm recently committed to using only 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastics materials across all of its products and packaging by 2030.

Richard Dickson, President and Cheif Operating Officer of Mattel, said: "Environmental sustainability is a corporate priority and we are proud to announce Mega’s first product made from bio-based materials.

"Our Mega team is deeply committed to bringing the best products to their loyal consumers and they are driving innovation to do this in the most sustainable way."

The company says the sustainable line of Mega Bloks will be available in retailers around the world.
