Former sustainability manager appointed CEO of H&M

Helena Helmersson, who previously worked as a sustainability manager for H&M, has been promoted to the position of CEO at the high-street retailer.

The appointment means she will become the company's first female CEO, as Stefan Persson steps down as Chairman of the Board and previous CEO Karl-Johan Persson replaces him.

The Board of Directors subsequently decided Helena Helmersson will move into the role of CEO - she previously held the title of sustainability manager for a five-year period, before being promoted into production manager and then Chief Operating Officer.

She said: "I look forward to driving the plan forward together with my colleagues, with a focus on the customer to continue strengthening our financial development in the short and long term.

"There is great potential to expand with existing and new brands, with new types of partnerships and to continue leading the development towards a sustainable fashion industry."
