Clean energy buses to replace diesel  in Serbia thanks to loan

The EBRD has agreed a €7 million loan for the Public Transport Company of Novi Sad to buy new buses that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

Zsuzsanna Hargitai, EBRD Regional Director, Western Balkans, said: “New buses will help reduce air pollution while providing better quality transport for citizens of Novi Sad.”

This project is part of the wider bus fleet renewal.  The CNG-powered buses will be in use from 2020 and will replace part of the old diesel bus fleet reducing CO2 emissions by at least 70%.

EBRD Green Cities is a programme to help cities with sustainable development. Each city develops a Green Cities Action Plan, which identifies and prioritises their most pressing environmental challenges.
