Clothing chain turns to pedal power for deliveries

Clothing chain turns to pedal power for deliveries

In a pilot project, H&M is offering its customers in 30 cities across the Netherlands, bicycle deliveries for online orders.

The fashion company says the project has been inspired by its work to cut carbon emissions. It’s teaming up with Fietskoeriers.nl. which will pick up parcels from an H&M hub warehouse using a van powered by biogas. The packages will be taken to local hubs and from there delivered to homes by bike.

Pascal Brun, Head of Sustainability at H&M, said: “We are happy to see an increasing interest for sustainability among our customers and hope they will love this new climate-smart way of getting their fashion finds delivered to their homes. We look forward to evaluating this pilot project and to reveal new exciting projects when it comes to climate-smart transports.”

Like many clothing companies online shopping is a growth area for H&M. It says it is aiming to make its logistics operation as efficient as possible. It’s set itself the target of not only being carbon neutral (net zero) by 2040 but actually climate positive.
