BP to provide renewable energy for Amazon’s data centres

BP will be supplying more than 170MW of renewable electricity to power Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) data centres in Europe under two new power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The oil giant will deliver power from new build green projects - a 122MW onshore wind farm in Sweden and a 50MW solar plant in Spain - from 2021.

They will generate enough electricity that meets the needs of more than 125,000 homes in Europe.

Robert Lawson, Chief Operating Officer for Global Gas at BP Supply and Trading, said: “BP and AWS are both targeting reductions in emissions from their respective operations.

“One way BP can play an important role in helping our customers is by using our trading capability and scale to deliver innovative, reliable and flexible supplies of low carbon and renewable power to major corporate customers and partners.”
