Nestlé says YES! to recyclable paper wrappers

Nestlé has developed new paper packaging for its YES! snack bars that can be recycled.

It is part of the global food giant’s commitment to ensure all its packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025.

Nestlé says the paper is from sustainable sources and has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

The company started eliminating all plastic straws from its products from February 2019 and previously created the Nestle Institute for Packaging Sciences to develop sustainable packaging materials and collaborate with industry partners to scale up research and innovation.

It is currently exploring a range of innovations, including new paper-based materials and biodegradable or compostable polymers that are also recyclable.

Patrice Bula, Head of Strategic Business Units, Marketing and Sales at Nestlé said: “Consumers are looking for more natural and sustainable options when they choose a snack, both in terms of ingredients and packaging.

“Out YES! bars are made with wholesome ingredients that celebrate and care for nature’s diversity. We are now relaunching them carefully wrapped in paper, making the packaging easy to recycle and avoiding plastic waste.”
