Jeremy Corbyn vows to create 400,000 green jobs

Jeremy Corbyn has pledged to "kickstart a green jobs revolution" with 400,000 new skilled roles across the UK.

Speaking at the Labour Party Conference, he said he would plough investment into building new wind farms and providing better insulation for homes, as part of a wider to push to slash greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.

He added he would support Theresa May if she delivers a "sensible Brexit deal", part of which would involve ensuring environmental standards are maintained after the UK leaves the EU.

He said the Party's plans would make the UK the only developed country outside Scandinavia to be on track to meeting its international climate change obligations, as well as bringing more skills and enhanced economic security to neglected communities.

He also set out plans to renationalise the water and energy industry, which he said would hand power to workers, consumers and local councils.

Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Shadow Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary, said the Labour Party would implement a target for net-zero emissions by 2050.
