ENGIE signs white label energy deal with UK local authority

French utility ENGIE has signed its first white label energy contract with a local authority in the UK.

Qwest Energy has been developed through a joint venture with Cheshire West and Chester Council and will supply energy to householders across the north west of England.

All investment required for the set-up and ongoing operations of the new supplier, which is offering 100% renewable electricity, has been provided by ENGIE.

For every new customer, the energy company will provide a contribution to a Qwest Energy Community Fund, which based on customer projections, is expected to generate more than £600,000 over the next five years.

The French utility currently already supplies more than 75,000 home energy customers across the UK.

“Aside from the high levels of customer service, Qwest Energy will provide local residents with a platform which we believe will in the future enable them to access a range of new technologies and services for their homes including batteries, PV and electric vehicle infrastructure – all helping them to embrace the UK’s transition to low carbon economy.”
