If Carlsberg did sustainable packaging…

Carlsberg has developed a new form of environmentally-friendly packaging, allowing it to dispense with the traditional plastic rings used to hold cans of beer.

The technique uses small pieces of glue to hold six-packs of lager together - the firm says these are easily to snap apart when required but tough enough to stand up to handling, transportation and changes in temperature.

The beer company says the glue can be recycled with the can and expects the move to enable its global plastic usage to be reduced by more than 1,200 tonnes a year.

Liam Newton, Vice President of Marketing at Carlsberg UK, said: "Our challenge is to continue to provide great tasting beer, whilst significantly reducing the use of plastics in our supply chain. We know this is an ongoing issue, not just in the UK but globally."
