University of Strathclyde enrolls in green rewards scheme

The University of Strathclyde is to roll out a new sustainability programme in October, following a successful five-month pilot period.

The Jump programme, delivered in collaboration with Green Rewards, allows staff to use a web-based platform or mobile app to track various wellbeing and environment-related activities, earning green points for the activities they complete.

Employees can earn green points for tracking their activity in areas such as sustainable commuting and reporting their recycling efforts.

Those who receive the most green points are able to win individual voucher prizes, while teams with the most green points can award a charity donation.

At the end of the five-month pilot, participating employees had avoided 15,000 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide emissions by using low carbon forms of transport to get to work and saved 2,939 disposable cups from being sent to landfill.

At the end of the pilot, 96% of employees said they had learned more about sustainability and 92% had succeeded in improving their sustainable behaviours.

Spela Raposa, Environmental Resources Manager at the University of Strathclyde, said: "Jump is facilitating positive changes on campus; it is exciting to see employees engaged and helping to achieve the university’s environmental goals."
