Kalashnikov takes aim at transport sector with new electric car

The company behind the famous AK-47 rifle has announced it is developing an electric vehicle (EV).

Manufacturing firm Kalashnikov has showcased its CV-1 prototype, which is inspired by soviet vehicles from the 1970s.

The business says despite the car's retro looks, it will boast supercar performance and features a range of complex technology systems that will allow it to compete with global EV producers such as Tesla.

It will feature a 90kWh battery and will be able to accelerate to 60mph in around six seconds, according to the firm.

The prototype is promised to have a much higher top speed than other electric cars produced by Kalashnikov and is said to have a 220-mile range, the same as the Tesla Model 3.

The cost of the vehicle has not yet been announced.
