‘LEDs can light up the path to energy savings and carbon reductions’

The Climate Group has called on businesses to help fast-track the uptake of connected LED lighting around the world.

The international not-for-profit says the world’s largest private companies hold the key to millions of dollars of potential energy savings and believes installing LED lighting is the easiest, most immediate action a company can take to lower its carbon footprint and significantly reduce its energy costs.

Along with lighting provider Signify, it suggests a global switch to LEDs across the private sector could generate $94 billion (£70.5bn) in cost savings while avoiding 403 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The organisation has called for all public lighting to be upgraded to LEDs by 2025, with a complete roll out of the technology across the private sector by 2020.

It says it will encourage knowledge sharing and provide guidance to businesses making the switch, help companies overcome challenges and track global progress.

The non-profit also plans to ensure businesses work with governments to deliver on the 2020 goal.
