General Motors and Honda rev up plans for EV batteries

General Motors (GM) and Honda have joined forces to develop advanced battery components for electric vehicles (EVs).

Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate based on GM’s battery system, with the intent for Honda to source the battery modules from GM.

The next-generation battery is expected to be smaller than currently available, have faster charging capabilities and provide more energy.

Mark Reuss, GM Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain said: “GM’s decades of electrification experience and strategic EV investments, alongside Honda’s commitment to advancing mobility, will result in better solutions for our customers and progress on our zero emissions vision.”

The two companies previously formed a manufacturing joint venture to deliver a “more affordable commercial solution” for fuel cell and hydrogen storage systems.
