ELF 2018: Sharing innovations ‘key to cutting energy usage and costs’

Sharing innovative technologies and processes with other organisations is key to cutting energy usage and costs.

That's according to energy managers from RBS, Tesco and Nottingham City Council, who spoke at last week's Energy Live Future event in London about how they were achieving this through the Innovation Gateway.

The scheme, which is funded by its partners’ shared investment, aims to bring public bodies and private businesses together to boost low carbon collaboration and sharing of best practice.

Innovation Gateway’s Head of Partnerships, Henry Majed, said it reduces the cost of sourcing and selecting suitable technologies, allows businesses to invest with more confidence and de-risks potential solutions.

Jo Saunders, Innovation Project Manager at RBS, added the company had saved more than 10 tonnes of carbon emissions in the last year through an efficient heating innovation it discovered through the Innovation Gateway.

The bank installed Endo Enterprises' EndoTherm technology across three of its branches and in doing so, reduced its gas consumption by 29%.

She said the Innovation Gateway means successful energy-saving projects like the one it implemented can be easily shared among other businesses who can look at in-depth case studies to make sure it will work for their business.
