Summary:
A major international energy company are looking for a Head of Design to lead already developed electro mechanical design teams, one based in London, the other in Sheffield. The team are focused on industrial sized combined heat and power distribution networks and the role will manage the design process including external designers as required to support gaps in resource or function. The Head of Design should have a keen interest in combined heat and power (CHP) installations, district energy networks and energy saving technology and be able to size and specify major plant - boilers, CHP engines, pumps, heat exchangers/chillers. Key responsibilities:
- Project document control & management in line with company Quality Management System.
- Provide quality control over design outputs.
- Operate within and adhere to the company Health & Safety policy and procedures.
- Interact closely with the Business Development team, Engineering teams in order to help develop future business.
- Input into the review of costings and program during the bidding process.
- Review and Approval of Design Engineer and Grad calculations, drawings and documentation.
- Successful receipt, progression, handover and compliance of the design phases of major multi-disciplinary design projects.
- Chairing design meetings, technical reviews, HAZID and HAZOP studies.
- Coordinating mechanical, electrical, civil, controls and CAD BIM teams and subcontractors on high profile energy and construction projects.
Skills and experience required:
- CEng Chartered Engineer with 10 years in a relevant field.
- Working knowledge of CIBSE, British Standards, BSRIA, IGEM etc.
- A working Knowledge of the Construction & Design Management Regulations 2015.
- Able to size and specify major plant - boilers, CHP engines, pumps, heat exchangers/chillers.
- An ability and willingness to manage, mentor and assist the development of Designers.
- Accountable for performance of design team, business stream operation, resources, budget and programme.
- Experience of developing and motivating a skilled remote team.
- Good commercial and financial acumen.
- Good communication and management of highly technical disciplines.
- Experience of managing stakeholder relationships and prioritising business needs.
- Full Driving Licence is essential.
