New £540k Scottish hub to manage 5GW global renewable assets

A £540,000 Scottish facility that will manage renewable energy projects has officially been opened by Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse.

Natural Power’s ControlCentre in Dumfries and Galloway will oversee more than 175 renewable assets with a total capacity of 5GW, located across the UK, Ireland, France and the US.

It includes onshore and offshore wind, biomass, solar and hydropower projects.

The firm said the new investment ensures the ControlCentre complies with all EU cybersecurity rules to protect clients’ projects and the grid.

One of the assets being managed is Fred Olsen Renewables’ 61.5MW Brockloch Rig Widn Farm, which was officially opened by Mr Wheelhouse.

Stephen Trotter, Managing Director of Natural Power said: “This investment is designed to deliver the next decade of services to a market where our clients demand more flexibility, where interaction between generators, system and network operators becomes more sophisticated and where intelligent management of assets brings higher returns.”
