E.ON and Google bring rooftop solar tech to the UK

E.ON and Google have announced they are extending their Project Sunroof solar technology from Germany to Italy and the UK.

The one-year programme, which offers customers a digital assessment of the solar potential of their homes, will now continue until the end of 2018.

It combines technologies such as Google Earth and Google Maps, 3D models and machine learning to calculate how much sunlight falls on a roof during the year and provide an accurate estimate of how much electricity could be generated.

More than 10,000 German customers requested a detailed initial analysis of their roof's solar potential - the service is simple, free of charge and personally tailored to each home.

E.ON saw annual revenues growth of 150% in its solar business last year and is offering free solar equipment with the sale of a new electric car.
