UPS trials new deliveries for sustainability

 
UPS is to trial a sustainable delivery service in central London using power-assisted bicycles and trailers.

The haulage firm plans to reduce traffic and congestion by using the new electric vehicles to deliver packages rather than its traditional vans.

The parcels are moved by electric-assisted trailers which mean their weight (up to 200 kilograms) isn’t felt by the handler, allowing drivers of all fitness levels to use the system.

The trial will focus around making deliveries in Camden during the lead-up to Christmas.

Peter Harris, Director of Sustainability at UPS Europe, said: "Low Impact City Logistics is a collaborative project that could revolutionise the way we deliver packages in our cities.

"UPS has a long history of developing, deploying and promoting the use of more sustainable technology and delivery methods and this collaboration will facilitate a one-of-a-kind urban delivery solution."
