IKEA’s on the top shelf for green growth

IKEA’s on the top shelf for green growth

IKEA UK has achieved its sixth consecutive year of growth, at the same time as slashing emissions and waste.

The home furnishings retailer, which plans to become "truly circular", has announced sales of £1.8 billion in the UK for the most recent financial year, up 5.8% on 2016.

This was achieved at the same time as sending zero waste to landfill for a second year in a row, generating the equivalent of 41% of its energy through renewables and reducing food waste by nearly a third across all stores.

The retailer also celebrated a decade of partnership with the Woodland Trust, through which it has helped plant 1.4 million trees to date.

Its furniture take-back scheme has resulted in 12,960 sofas, beds and appliances being recovered for reuse or recycling and a new textile recycling initiative in its Cardiff Store has seen 1.1 tonnes of textile products collected.
