Clean Growth Strategy to look at energy in 4D

Clean Growth Strategy to look at energy in 4D

The Clean Growth Strategy offers a real opportunity to begin implementing energy policies that have been on hiatus.

That's the verdict from Louise Kingham, CEO of the Energy Institute, who spoke to ELN at Energy Live Expo yesterday.

She said although many policies have "been on ice", the strategy would mean these can now be "thawed out" as the energy industry and large energy consumers start to shape and create business opportunities from what she called the four Ds - decentralisation, decarbonisation, democratisation and digitisation.

She said: "I think the direction of travel is very clear in terms of what the government ambition is but I think like with any strategy, the devil comes in the detail in terms of how we implement and how we deliver what people are striving for in terms of that final destination.

"How will we get there - there are multiple ways in which we can do that and clearly that's where the opportunity for different businesses comes along, businesses that today don't even exist but they will do in terms of the opportunities that are going to be created amongst those four Ds."

She added the government must be very transparent on how much the clean growth policies will cost consumers if they were to be successful.
