Sky has nearly halved carbon use since 2008

Sky has achieved a 47% reduction in carbon intensity across the UK and Ireland since 2008.

That's according to the TV and telecommunications company's annual sustainability report, which states its emissions have decreased by 8.5% to 9.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per million pounds of revenue since last year.

It attributes the reduction to continued investment in the energy efficiency of its buildings and onsite renewable energy, which has helped meet half of its 10 environment targets for 2020 three years early.

The company has also raised more than £9 million to save rainforests around the globe, as well as launched a campaign to save oceans from the impact of single-use plastics at the start of this year.

The report says Sky now designs its products with less material and makes sure they are recycled, which has helped reduce transport emissions and the amount of packaging needed.

It has also removed all plastic water bottles, cups and straws from its offices and now uses cutlery made from cornstarch.
