Coca-Cola applies for self-supply retail water licence

Coca-Cola applies for self-supply retail water licence

Coca Cola European Partners (CCEP) has applied for a self-supply water and sewerage licence in England.

If granted, it will enable the company to provide retail services to itself and associated companies in the group, regulator Ofwat said.

Retail services are customer facing services such as billing, meter reading and customer enquiries.

The opening of the retail water market in England this April gives businesses, charities and public sector organisations more choice over who provides the services.

CCEP believes having a self-supply licence will allow it to take more control over its own water use, deal directly with the suppliers while driving costs and consumption control in the next phase of its sustainability strategy.

It has entered a partnership agreement with Waterscan to take on the role and responsibilities for the retail functions.

Ofwat added: “A WSSL [Water Supply and Sewerage License] limited to self-supply will only be granted to supply premises supplied or served using the water supply or sewerage system of an undertaker whose area is wholly or mainly in England.”

Anyone who wishes to make representations or objections with respect to the application can do so until 21st November 2017.
