Wood Group wins French nuclear decommissioning work

An engineering and technical services firm has been awarded a waste recovery contract by the French Government's nuclear agency.

Wood Group will work to recover and package low-level radioactive waste from a storage silo at a major nuclear site in France at the request of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

It will cover project management, safety, design and commissioning, as well as the first six months of operations.

Over five years, Wood will work with French firm AREVA Projets to retrieve, package and store 50 tonnes of waste which have been stored at the CEA Marcoule facility for more than half a century.

The firm will design a remotely operated robotic arm to remove the waste elements and decommission the silo.
