Nissan collaborates on vehicle-to-grid and battery tech

Nissan and OVO Energy have teamed up to accelerate the adoption of battery storage and vehicle-to-grid technologies in the UK.

The firms will provide a joint offering of the car manufacturer's xStorage home system combined with the energy firm's VNet intelligent energy software, called the OVO SolarStore.

The solar and storage system will cost £4,800 and offer an estimated average saving of £240 on energy bills.

They also plan to launch a vehicle-to-grid offering for private customers buying the new Nissan LEAF from next year.

This will allow owners of the car to charge at low-demand, cheap tariff periods and later use the electricity stored in the vehicle’s battery at home and at work when costs are higher.

It will also enable customers to sell excess energy back to the grid at peak times.
