Humber to host £2m offshore wind centre of excellence

Humber to host £2m offshore wind centre of excellence

The Humber region is to host a new £2 million centre for offshore wind operations and maintenance.

It will be based at the University of Hull, with its researchers working alongside the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s innovation team.

The five-year partnership will see a series of research and innovation projects developed to improve the way offshore wind farms are operated and maintained.

The centre is expected to be built “at the lowest cost ever for a UK offshore wind farm”.

Chris Hill, ORE Catapult’s Operational Performance Director said: “Operations and maintenance activities make up almost a quarter of the lifetime costs of an offshore wind farm and provide a huge opportunity for UK companies to supply their products and services.

“The East Coast and particularly the Humber Estuary has extensive experience of servicing offshore wind farms and that experience is invaluable as we look to build expertise and a local supply chain.”

The UK's future energy mix will be discussed at Energy Live Expo on November 2nd in London. Last few free tickets are available for energy end users.
