UK among six nations to drive wind growth in Europe

The UK is among six countries expected to drive the growth of wind power in Europe.

According to new figures released by WindEurope, the renewable source has the potential to supply the region with 30% of power by 2030 with the right policies, reaching 323GW of capacity.

It suggests the sector needs greater certainty on long term revenue stability, significant progress on the integration of renewables and policy commitments on electrification.

It forecasts Europe could be on course for an average installation rate of 12.6GW a year up to 2020, taking the total to 204GW.

The growth is expected to be concentrated in just six countries – Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and the UK – with Central and Eastern Europe lagging “well behind”.
