Toyota takes the LEED on green building in Texas

 

One of Toyota’s offices in the US has achieved a green building certification.

Toyota Motor North America’s (TMNA) headquarters campus in Plano, Texas has received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standard from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

It is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

The site is said to have the largest corporate solar installation among non-utility companies in Texas – 8.79MW - which produces up to 33% of the daily needs.

Energy efficient lighting has also been installed and the campus features specialised rooftop design with plant life to manage rainwater and reduce energy use.

More than 99% of the construction waste was also recycled.

Jim Lentz, TMNA President and CEO said: “With the installation of greenspaces, thousands of solar panels, a massive rainwater capture system and natural light wells, we have designed our new headquarters to reflect the local habitat and enhance its biodiversity.”
