Scotland sees £5.1m to prevent oil & gas wear

A £5.1 million Scottish research programme to address wear in oil and gas pipes and equipment has received new investment.

Livingston-based Scaled Solutions' initiative is receiving £2.2 million from Scottish Enterprise, with another £2.9 million being sourced from the company itself.

The project aims to develop new testing services to address knowledge and technology gaps in corrosion and scaling mechanisms, which is when surfaces such as the inside of pipes and valves become damaged or dirty.

Scotland’s Economy Secretary Keith Brown welcomed the research and development (R&D) boost, saying it would bolster the country's existing reputation for providing world-class services to the sector.

The company will grow its staff at its Scottish base over the next three years by a third, with 17 of the 19 new jobs in R&D.

Dr Gordon M. Graham, Managing Director of Scaled Solutions, said: "This is the largest R&D project we’ve undertaken to date and we believe it will transform our current capabilities and services, creating solutions not available anywhere else in the world."
