Firms team up for energy efficiency in UAE

A management services firm and Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company are to pursue joint sustainability projects.

BMS and Masdar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities to improve the energy and water efficiency of buildings and facilities across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

They aim to help companies decrease their energy consumption and operating costs in line with the nation's plan to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of water and power supplies.

The MoU also aims to help the UAE improve demand management.

The first project undertaken will be the IPIC Square complex, which will involve developing an asset management system and analysing energy, water and waste statistics.

The final aim of the project is to recommend no- or low-cost enhancement measures.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, said: "There are tremendous opportunities for companies across the UAE to significantly reduce operational costs by making their buildings and facilities more energy and water efficient.

"We are delighted to bring together the vast experience and expertise of Masdar and BMS to meet the growing market demand for these services, while making a valuable contribution to the sustainability objectives of the UAE."

The UAE is to invest AED600 billion (£132bn) by 2050 in renewable energy projects in the country.
