Innovative energy projects win share of £15m

Innovative businesses across the UK have won a share of £15 million for their cutting-edge projects.

A total of 50 projects, including in the energy sector, were successful – receiving funding ranging from £25,000 to £1 million.

One of the projects – Biodice – is a joint venture between JWA Racing and the University of Birmingham, which will develop a scalable internal combustion engine that will lower fuel usage, emissions and costs.

Petalite is developing a technology platform to speed up and improve electric vehicle battery charging while Welldata Subsurface Surveillance System’s technology measures fluid levels in oil and gas wells.

Another project will see Energy Technology Centre and the National Physical Laboratory undertake a feasibility study to investigate the use of state of the art measurement techniques to measure the real-time wind turbine erosion of test samples.

Fionnuala Costello, Head of Open Programmes at Innovate UK said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to fund such a wide range of innovative projects with great potential for return on investment for companies, both across the UK and across our major sectors."
