UK consumer code extended to cover battery storage

A long-running UK consumer code has been extended to cover battery storage systems and related products.

The Renewable Energy Consumer Code's (RECC) new boundaries mean reputable manufacturers, suppliers and distributors can ensure their equipment is properly sold to consumers rather than dangerous or faulty alternatives.

The group hopes the move will help maintain the reputation of the industry as it grows and ensure customers are well informed at all stages.

RECC says it has already registered increased interest in energy storage products, as well as a rise in complaints regarding mis-selling.

Consumers are strongly encouraged to check if their installer is a RECC member before paying.

Virginia Graham, Chief Executive at RECC, said: "We think this is a major step forward for consumer protection in this important emerging sector.

"We know that there is already mis-selling and confusion among consumers and we are aiming to ensure that this is avoided going forward."
