UN partners up to assess green targets

The UN's climate branch has forged a sustainable partnership with a standards and certification body.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Gold Standard will work together to assist organisations, including businesses and cities, in setting green targets, assessing the environmental impacts of their actions and fighting climate change.

James Grabert, Director of the UNFCCC, said: "Governments are central to delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but the speed and scale of the transformation needed can only happen if supported by all sectors of society.

"Developing those tools and solutions aims at assisting all stakeholders to act concretely towards our common goals, as enshrined in the SDGs."

The partnership aims to provide all groups involved with improved ways to easily and cost-effectively analyse, assess and demonstrate their environmental goals.

It will offer a personalised decision making tool for corporate sustainability assessments and methodologies to quantify and report progress, aided by technology solutions.

Two UN organisations have teamed up to promote a fair and sustainable transition of the workforce towards low carbon economies, especially in developing nations.
