A call for environmental and climate proposals in north-west Russia has been launched.
The new Nordic-Russian Programme for Environment and Climate Co-operation (PECC) aims to help increase the sustainability and resilience of energy systems by supporting a range of innovative projects at both regional and local levels.
Funding is available to expand renewable capacity, improve energy efficiency, research and develop associated technologies and protect the natural world.
Selected proposals may receive financing of up to €200,000 (£171,261).
This may be awarded to partnerships between Nordic non-commercial institutions, organisations or authorities, as well as to their corresponding qualified partners in North-West Russia.
Commercial companies cannot apply for funding or be partners but may provide technology and services to projects.
Henrik G Forsström, Senior Advisor at Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), said: "We are very pleased to administrate this new funding programme for the implementation of environmental projects in Russia and we have already received many interesting project enquiries prior to the first call."
Applications can be submitted until the 15th of May 2017.
Russia took the crown from Saudi Arabia as the biggest oil producer in the world in December.
