CNG’s first green project is an eco-school

A commercial gas supplier has launched its renewable energy division with an eco-school project.

CNG will provide solar power to an innovative new education centre in Leeds that will be built out of shipping containers.

The modular construction will be powered by a range of green energy sources and hopes to offer an alternative to traditional schooling by encouraging young people to find their strengths and gain qualifications in ways that excite and engage them.

Elliott Turnbull, CEO of The Works Charity, is leading the project, which is expected to be completed in autumn 2017.

CNG is also working on a wider project to help schools offset their energy costs with increased access to renewable technologies.

Ellis Hall, Renewable Energy Co-ordinator, said: "This project is a perfect fit for our first renewables scheme. We are working steadily, slowly and in a considered way to respond to customer demand and our passion for putting back into communities ties this all together.

"Our longer term aim is to educate businesses and schools on how renewables can positively impact them and equip them with the knowledge they need to face the changing energy landscape."

A solar powered computer was recently unveiled at an eco-friendly school in Merseyside.

Scotland has become the first country to have 2,000 schools awarded a ‘Green Flag’ eco-award.
