New 36MW UK onshore wind farm powers up

A 36.3MW onshore wind farm in South Lanarkshire in Scotland is now fully operational.

The Andershaw Wind Farm consists of 11 turbines, which are expected to generate enough electricity to meet the demands of around 23,400 homes every year.

Developer Statkraft says the construction of the wind farm has been a boost to the local economy, with around £2.5 million being spent in the region.

During the lifetime of the project, the Norwegian firm will pay £2.2 million into the South Lanarkshire Renewable Energy Fund to provide financial assistance to local initiatives. The fund is already open for applications for green projects.

The project is Statkraft’s third onshore wind development in Scotland.

Earlier this month the Scottish Government granted planning consent for a 12MW floating wind farm.
