E.ON unveils new smart meter mobile app

E.ON has unveiled a new smart meter management mobile app.

The 'E.ON See' tool is being offered to some smart meter customers instead of a physical display and aims to allow them to accurately check data usage whenever and wherever they are.

The energy firm says its near real time information on daily, weekly and monthly statistics, broken down into both financial and kilowatt terms, offers far greater clarity regarding billing than previously possible.

It also includes a traffic light system which allows customers to easily spot if their energy consumption is higher, lower or in line with normal use.

In addition, customers can receive regular alerts to remind them to keep track of how much energy they're using.

Chris Lovatt, Director of Residential Operations at E.ON, said: "Smart meters already offer a number of benefits for customers, such as helping bring an end to estimated bills.

"Through innovative solutions like E.ON See, we’re making it even easier for our customers to benefit from complete clarity about their energy habits by providing detailed, personalised insights through a convenient and easy to use app."

E.ON hopes to offer the app to all its eligible residential smart meter customers in due course.

The government’s smart meter rollout could cost £1 billion more than previously predicted, taking the total cost to £12 billion.
