Indian energy conservation on the up

Energy conservation in India is becoming an increasingly important priority.

That is according to Saurabh Kumar, the Managing Director of Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a company that works closely with the government to implement various energy efficiency and renewable sources of generation across the country.

The firm collaborates with local governments and other businesses to help support green projects in planning, development or construction.

It famously upgraded the traditional streetlight system in the city of Visakhapatnam with much less energy intensive LED bulbs, which drew decision makers from other Indian cities from far and wide to study what was done and how.

It also spreads its sustainable message through social and digital media, pilot projects and workshops.

Mr Kumar said: "The focus on energy conservation and implementation like the use of LED bulbs, solar agriculture pumps, star-rated fans, heaters and other electrical appliances are increasing now."

India needs to install more than 10GW of renewables each year between 2017 and 2022 to meet its green target.
