Light your tree or go on a Christmas journey…

The amount of electricity spent lighting the UK's Christmas trees might surprise you.

If every one of the eight million Christmas trees in the country had its lights on for 12 hours a day through December, the amount of power used would be enough to send an electric vehicle (EV) around Earth 50 times.

A Nissan Leaf EV could use the electricity to complete more than 308 journeys to and from Lapland, drive from from Lands’ End to John O’Groats more than a million times or do 42 return journeys to the moon (maybe not in a Nissan leaf)!

These journeys all involve driving a distance of around 2,000,000 kilometres.

This figure comes from NewMotion, an EV charging company offering more than 30,000 cloud-connected smart charging points through Europe.

The company allows businesses and private users to charge their EVs using smart technology that monitors usage, plans journeys, manages costs and load balances power requirements from the grid.
