Gas system long – DMR

Gas system long – DMR

The UK gas system has opened long this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast below 15mcm in length.

Langeled flows at 74mcm and further support from storage injection nominations and Dutch interconnector imports are helping support the system.

Demand is expected to be higher than seasonal normal levels as temperatures are forecast to be colder during the weekend.

Sam Hill from the Optimisation Desk said: "Centrica Storage launched a consulation on its application to reduce Rough’s minimum storage capacity and additional space for the 2017/18 storage year.

"A successful application will reduce gas storage capacity for the UK and may make us more reliant on the new European gas storage sites importing through the interconnectors."

On the power system, the peak margin is forecast under 13GW.

Wind is generating 1.5GW, while CCGT generation is at 15GW, providing 58% of the stack.

Coal is at 5.5GW and nuclear generation above 8GW.

Mr Hill added: “The French and Dutch interconnectors remain on export mode as cooler temperatures persist on the continent. It has also been announced that the 500MW East-West interconnector will return to operations earlier than expected on the 23rd this month. Subject to testing, power is likely to flow in the net direction of the UK this winter due to tighter forecast margins, providing some relief during peak periods."

Brent oil is currently trading at $54.16/bbl (£43.32/bbl)

The pound is valued at €1.19.
