New initiative to scale-up solar and energy storage

New initiative to scale-up solar and energy storage

A consortium of companies has started an initiative to help scale up renewable technologies.

The Bright Minds Challenge aims to accelerate the large-scale delivery of solar power and energy storage by offering commercial, technical and mentoring support to scientists working in these areas.

The organisations behind the initiative, led by DSM, are committed to renewable energy and want to lead the transition to a low carbon economy.

Anyone with a prototype and ready-to-scale renewable energy technology can submit an entry.

The top three solutions will all receive support, with the winner getting 500 hours of tailored help to fast-forward the development and commercialisation of their project. The winners will be announced in June 2017.

Rob van Leen, DSM Chief Innovation Officer, said: "This collaboration drives radical innovation and attempts to unlock the potential of bright minds around the world. Together we will offer these scientists the opportunity to take their solutions to the next step for the benefit of society as a whole."

Solar power and energy storage will be part of the discussions at the Energy Live 2016 conference in London next Thursday. There are limited free tickets for energy end users and university students.
