India ratifies Paris Agreement

India ratifies Paris Agreement

India is the latest country which has deposited its instrument of ratification of the Paris Agreement with the UN.

The nation, which is one of the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitters, has committed to generate at least 40% of its electricity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

In December, around 195 countries agreed to take action to limit the raise of temperatures below 2°C at COP21.

The climate deal was signed in April and, according to the UN, there are 191 signatories to the climate treaty.

Of these, 62 states have deposited their instruments of ratification, acceptance or approval so far, accounting for 51.89% of total GHG.

Bahamas, Ukraine are among those countries which have ratified the deal and the UK, the US and China have committed to do it before the end of the year.
