Energy efficiency the third largest electricity resource in the US

Energy efficiency has become the third largest electricity resource in the US.

Without efficiency measures, 313 additional large power plants would had been necessary to meet the country’s electricity needs, a report by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) claims.

The ACEEE believes energy efficiency could count as the equivalent of 18% of total generation last year.

Investments in energy efficiency have paid off, reducing pollution, advancing cutting-edge technology, creating jobs and also helping households save on average £840 annually, its report added.

The organisation believes that if the country increases its use of energy efficiency policies, it could become the nation’s largest electricity resource by 2030, providing one-third of total  expected electricity generation needs.

These additional energy  savings by 2030 would avoid the need for electrical capacity equivalent to 487 power plants.
