Renewable projects pass CfD milestone requirement

A total of 39 renewable projects under the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, including investment contracts, have met necessary requirements to deliver energy.

That’s according to Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) which manages the projects, claiming they have passed the Milestone Requirement.

They includes offshore and onshore wind, biomass conversion, combined heat and power, solar, energy from waste and advanced conversion technology projects and have a total capacity of more than 6GW.

Under the CfD scheme, all projects must meet contractual deadlines to prove they are progressing to their agreed commissioning date set as a Milestone Requirement Notice.

The LCCC has to approve these notices within 12 months since the CfD is awarded or the subsidy is cancelled.

LCCC added its first CfD project is now generating electricity in Shropshire.

The Charity Farm is made up of more than 54,300 panels, with an installed capacity output of 11.94MW.

It will power more than 4,000 homes and will save more than 6,400 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Chief Executive of LCCC Neil McDermott said: "This is an important milestone for LCCC and demonstrates that the full CFD process is in place and operating. We look forward to our other CFD projects also starting to generate electricity in the months and years to come."
