Procter & Gamble to cut costs with on-site energy

E.ON is building an on-site energy plant for a Procter & Gamble (P&G) factory in Berlin.

The company's Gillette razor site will be powered by a combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) plant. It will see a reduction in both carbon dioxide emissions and water consumption once the 2MW combined heat and power facility is operational.

The site’s power needs will fall by approximately 2.5GWh each year, equivalent to the power demand of 660 homes.

The scheme will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,600 tons per year, the amount created by 1,000 cars driving 15,000 kilometers. P&G will also be able to reduce water consumption from cooling by 86%.

The plant is planned to be completed by the end of the year.

The CCHP plant will be owned by E.ON and operated from their remote control centre in Hamburg.
