A Bradford waste firm has been ordered to pay £27,420 after repeatedly breaking environmental laws.
Sam House LTD was prosecuted on 2nd August because it repeatedly stored too much waste at its Keighley waste transfer station and ran an illegal dumping site on Rosse Street.
Director Mohammed Rashid was first investigated in April 2013 after storing overflowing skips on the roadside outside his Keighley premises. He had 40 tonnes of waste on the site, far above the 10 tonne limit.
The Environment Agency served a legal notice requiring him to reduce the amount of waste on site. An inspection in June 2014 revealed around 75 tonnes of waste were present, some stored on unmade ground where it could pollute the soil and water table.
Despite being warned, Mr Rashid continued to break environmental laws. An inspection in May 2015 revealed around 100 tonnes of waste stored on the site.
Two legal notices were served requiring the excess waste to be removed but both were ignored, according to the Environment Agency.
Officers found 42 skips of waste and 40 empty skips on Rosse Street and were found to have lied about their content and volume.
Mr Rashid's excuse was he hadn’t researched waste management legislation before taking over the permit.
The sites have now been cleared and the company is to be dissolved.
