National Grid is installing a series of energy saving measures at its training centre in Eakring.
The grid operator has installed 366 rooftop solar panels, which have generated more than 18,000kWh of electricity so far– around 6% of the centre’s power consumption.
They are expected to generate as much as 82,000kWh per year and save 40 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Motion-sensor controlled lights are also being installed and energy-saving heating controls are currently being trialled to cut energy consumption at the site.
Risk and Compliance Manager Richard Lloyd said: "Installing solar panels is just one of the many measures National Grid is taking to tackle one of the greatest challenges facing our society – delivering clean energy to support our world into the future. We’re doing all we can – from encouraging big electricity users to switch off when they don’t need power at peak times of electricity demand to reducing energy use at our own sites."
National Grid previousl installed solar panels at its UK headquarters in Warwick and training centres at Hollinwood in Greater Manchester and Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
