Editorial – Drones, dodgems and delight on TELCA night 2016!

All 560 of you who came to our fourth TELCA party last night. The biggest ever, we had the cream of the broker and consultancy sector in attendance for a night I hope they won't forget.

Luckily this crazy June weather held out and it was a dry evening, so they could enjoy our new home the Honourable Artillery Company showgrounds, complete with funfair and a drone flyby!

We couldn't put on this event without our amazing sponsors; British Gas, CNG, ENGIE, Haven Power, McLean Ross, npower, ScottishPower and United Utilities. A massive thanks to them who continue to support this vital of markets.

I really enjoyed the new venue, the relaxed dress code (though I think gents you might have struggled with that a bit!) and the vibe of a more chilled TELCA night. The funfair added to the feeling of childish fun that we love here at ELN towers and by the look of it last night, so do lots of you out there.

So many of you approached me and the ELN team to say that you really enjoyed the event and we are grateful for your feedback.

TELCA is now I hope the "Energy Oscars" and just like those movie accolades winning our trophy is making a real difference to the brokers who are successful. Helping them win more clients and business or recruit staff and gain traction.

All of this is the serious point of these awards.

Four years ago when we started them, TPIs were a much maligned bunch, tolerated by suppliers but there wasn't much love lost and many end users felt there were plenty of cowboys out there looking to cut a deal and not doing much to help them.

I feel in some way TELCA has helped change that image. We think brokers, the vast vast majority of them, are really decent, hardworking and knowledgeable people who are doing the best for their customers. TELCA has highlighted this good practice and given them something to strive for.

Congratulations to all our winners and commiserations to those who didn't quite make it.
